Phong's cases, while his prices bear little connection with reality, are constructed to gen specs, which means gen parts, including the movement, will drop in without modification. They also tend to weigh a bit more than the average rep or aftermarket case & are machined to a better fit & finish. Per the investigations of Gimme and others, there are at least 3 different Phong 6263 cases available right now. Each one has a different midcase thickness and lug shape. (I think chief's is the thinnest of them.) I have both his 7016 and 7021 cases and they are perhaps the best aftermarket case for the vintage Tudor out there. Phong typically uses ETA 2789 movements which are the last iteration of the 2784 that Tudor originally used in the 9401 and 9411. The later 7016 used a 2783 which was the 2784 with no date. After my post yesterday I was introduced to Phong by the friendly u/FoxCrashSonic. After browsing his site for a bit I came upon this gorgeous Patek 1518 with price upon request, claiming to be solid 18k gold. As I've mentioned before, dealing with Phong can be a frustrating experience. I asked him to see what he has in the way of a 5512 case and he said he has a good example and asked for a serial to engrave. I asked several times to send me pics prior to shipping and 3 days later I receive a DHL pack. Unfortunately, it is no longer available. The only option these days I am aware of is Phong (jewelryandwatch.com). Their stuff is excellent but very pricey. They only list a complete watch, but if you inquire they will send you the parts as well. Your best bet however will be to go to the rep forums and look for a used one.
Custom builds on a Cartel case are drastically easier vs Gen Spec - movement rings are plentiful, dial opening is perfect, crown tube height exact. However - if budget is not a concern, a Vietnam/Phong gen spec case is miles closer to gen.
