Anticipation is said to be the greatest of all pleasures. In the spirit of this, the years of anticipation, prolonged by the pandemic, have been rather marvellous. I have been lucky enough to be invited by Patek Philippe to visit the museum and manufacture during a 2 days trip to Geneva. The invitation was for myself and a +1. Unfortunately, my wife could not part from work at those dates. While visiting the new Patek Philippe facility in Geneva’s Plan-les-Ouates neighbourhood (affectionately known as Plan-les-Watches or Plan-les-Watch), we are shown a staggering number of CNC (computer numerical control) machines.
Patek Philippe calls it PP6, the brand’s sixth production wing at Plan-les-Ouates in the Genevan suburbs; a watchmaking plant that will birth all your Calatravas, Nautiluses, Aquanauts, Gonodolos and Twenty~4s for foreseeable decades to come. A creative hub, inner sanctum and manufacturing monolith rolled into one, PP6 took five years to .
