I wanted to write out a fairly detailed review of the 2021 Rolex Explorer 1 – 124270 which was released in April of this year. There has been much debate and discussion on this watch on TRF and other forums as its one of the few (if any) times Rolex has gone back to an original design size for a new model. Members of the forum will correct me . Here is the new 40mm Explorer ref. 224270. This is the Explorer I’ve been waiting for. perfect for my wrist (~7 inches) and as nicely proportioned as the 124270, which I owned, but could never warm up to the size.
Explorer I - 39mm. If you really want one, it will look good on you, no doubt. My wrist size is between 7.25 and 7.5”. To keep it simple, I usually just say 7.25”. When I tried one on a couple years back, it definitely wore smaller than my Submariner 114060, which I consider the perfect fit for me. I found one from a trusted seller on the Rolex Forum, and which also was listed here, in my budget. I traded out a watch I didn't feel right keeping, plus some cash. Then I also sold a watch I liked but rarely wore. I'm considering purchasing a 36mm Rolex Explorer 1 (LNIB M serial from 2007). My wrist is 6.75" and I think it would look pretty good. I've never actually seen one 'in person', however, so would appreciate your opinion relative to other, 'similar' watches (e.g., the current 39mm Explorer 1 and the ever popular 14060M no-date Submariner). Place the new model next to one from the late ‘90s, and the average viewer will be hard pressed to tell them apart. A closer look reveals some important differences, however.

I have 5 watches in my collection and the next one down from my explorer is a 1997 Seamaster professional (the original goldeneye quartz one) and the explorer gets 90% wrist time. It’s my goto daily watch.
My AD said the Explorer is the one watch they’re not considering putting anyone on the waitlist for / registering interest, regardless of purchase history. Go used / aftermarket from a reputable dealer. You’ll get the watch you want without playing the games. I have been thinking about purchasing an Explorer 1 as believe they have a sort of class about the model without being to stand out. I currently have a Sub Bluesy but would keep this and go for an Explorer for day to day wear. Does the forum think this would be a good solid watch to purchase??
